Timan Fishing

Unique fishing in Nenets Autonomous Area

Current level of society development makes fishing more of a recreational activity rather than just struggling for food. And fishing tourism becomes more and more popular. The goal of our company is to make people aware of the problem connected with the recovery and preservation of the population of the Atlantic salmon, trout, char and grayling in the Volonga river (Nenets AA) for the future generations as well as making the ‘catch and release’ principle for fishing popular.

The Volonga River

The Volonga River (Nenets Area, Archangelsk Region) is located on the Eastern border of the Atlantic salmon habitat. The river origins unite in the Timan Ridge and then the river flows to the West across the Timan Tundra and falls into the Cheshskaya Bay of the Barents Sea.

  • Summer season

The summer run begins in early June and lasts till August. From the first days it’s possible to see big males and females that weigh more than 5-6 kg. Closer to mid-summer period it’s mostly grilse time with small males in the river. During summer besides salmon it’s also possible to catch trout, sea trout, Arctic char or grayling that can be found along the river. Once in two years humpback salmon comes into the river system.
